There are quite a few really lovely museums in the city. I especially adore Le MAP. For anyone into fashion, it’s a must see. A stunning visual delight. With beautiful fabrics and shiny object galore! And really interesting history to boot. End the visit with a stop at the fantastic rooftop restaurant.
All the museums are actually worth a stop. A little culture in between shopping and sightseeing. And a big respite from the chaos.

One of the most intriguing things about Marrakech is the mix of traditional and modern. It feels both old world and uber hip. And the fact that one isn’t allowed to drink in public, creates a bit of an otherworldly bar scene. Think Casablanca vibes on a rooftop highs. I love that the respect to culture creates intimate atmosphere. It makes getting a drink intentional and slightly exotic. An adventure to times past.

While this post is about Marrakech, I do recommend taking the train to other cities and further exploring the country. It’s fun (go for first class), you’ll likely meet interesting people, and you get to see more of Morocco. A wonderful win all around.
Will share details in a future post.
notes
- cash is still king on the streets, but cards are widely accepted in the more modern spots
- get the local sim as soon as you can. cheap and easy and will maybeeeee keep you from getting too turned around
- there are a ton of cool spots in Gueliz, worth the venture out of the medina
- the pistachios iced coffee from Blue Ribbon is amazing and I wish I had one right now
- the Mamounia is my favorite hotel ever, smells like heaven, and sells heaven-scented candles. to absolutely bring home
- make sure and catch the live performance at the music museum. check the site for current performances
- there are a few more manageable markets if you want to skip the madness of the medina to do some serious shopping. details to come in l’adresse Marrakech
